My Summary for you all Hashem is one and wants us to work!
Summary of work in the Jaffainstitute and future plans to be very successful bs’d…
The 1st year of work here has been filled with insights into a mosdos/institution that is a true role model for the world at large…
Getting to know the largeness of the projects here and the people behind them has been truly inspirational.
The 1st commitment was to introduce myself with “Complete Unity in Jerusalem Concert for the Jaffa Institute
On May 8th after Shabbat, seven bands came together to play their hearts and souls out at the Complete Unity in Jerusalem Concert to benefit the Jaffa Institute. Arranged by musician and educator, Rabbi Eli Goldsmith at Hechal Shlomo on King George Street in Jerusalem, the show attracted almost 200 audience members to hear music from such bands as Shtar – that combine hip hop, pop, rock and religious sounds to benefit those in need.”
The 2nd commitment was to make an event in London while introducing the Jaffainstitute to 100’s of family and friends throughout myself funded trip through-out England. Exert from our news letter is “On June 27th, after Shabbat, Rabbi Eli Goldsmith performed in concert in London, Gospel Oak for over 100 people, spreading awareness about the British Friends of the Jaffa Institute and their support of our programming here in Israel. The event, organized by Dr. Clive Selwyn and hosted by Elliot Tucker, showcased 6 performers, a variety of sounds and touching stories about the Jaffa Institute. Musician and Educator, Rabbi Eli Goldsmith consults with the Institute, teaching music to at-risk youth and arranging benefit concerts to raise funds. Our teenage boys have referred to Eli as a Jewish superhero, staying up all hours of the night with students in trouble, using music as a tool to help them pick themselves up and become successful members of society.” this event and other interactions brought the first of many 100sterling donation.
Also while in England was introduced to a huge potential fund raising plan from my family, which we can if gaining the status of National Charity, will benefit greatly from. http://www.fundraising-initiatives.org/en/
The 3rd commitment was to make events here in Israel for the programs to be involved with and gain the needed musical outlet with inspiration.
e.g.1) Monday, October 4, 2010 – UnitY-love concert Kiryat Chinuch Bet Shemesh New Hall אחד אהבה” קונצרט http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=151988861479582
2) 2night SHYNE inspirational STORY Lighting us up in The Holy Old City ! and Shyne inspires in Neveh Tzion – Tels Stone
3) Saturday, March 5 Unity Concerts Rocks Yisrael הופעה בירושלים וקריית חינוך בית שמש Unity Accoustic Preview concerts 12th March Unity in Jerusalem, @Tamir
In total 5 events which all were broadcasted to 1000’s, raised extra funds at no cost and received a lot of publicty e.g. an interview with Rabbi Eli Goldsmith, “the midnight rabbi ” on the upcoming UnitY-love benefit concert in Beit Shemesh featuring Y-Love, Yosef Daniel, Elyon, and more http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Radio/News.aspx/2550
and “the speech was organized by Rabbi Eli Goldsmith of the Jaffa Institute who for several years now has been working with dis-enfranchised yeshiva youth. Rabbi Goldsmith is known for his fundraising concerts featuring local yeshiva youth. He plans to bring Shyne to speak at an event on December 2 for the dedication of a new wing for the Bet Shemesh Educational Center.http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/140676
The music room has gained equipment and could gain from my talented inspirational and motivational musical insights to the students themselves. We hope to receive music equipment from a charity in London and my brother is sending us approx 1500 pieces of t-shirts/hoodies.
A bonus to this years work was the connection with Shyne-Moses Leivi which has attracted a lot of good P.R. and he promisses to donate 1000’s of $ as hes career takes hold…
Shyne – or maybe it’s Moshe Levi – revealed that he will pick up the tab for a group bar mitzvah for Ethiopian boys in Beit Shemesh, through the Institute for the Advancement of Education in Jaffa. Aware that the color of his skin might make him a paradigm for these kids, he wants to model a strong connection with God as a pathway to success.

Also to host another event in London with a larger interest from family and friends that will be more educated on the importance of the Jaffainstitute and donate more charitably.
Most importantly is the continued support the Jaffainstitute gives me, enabling me to help 1000s of people with good advice, good posts, good music and good influence on the youth providing a role model that in family and life will only bring tremendous long term blessing and support to the Jaffaisntitute.

From Jail to Judaism, Rapper ‘Shines’ with Rabbi
Kislev 9, 5771, 16 November 10 04:45
by by Ben Bresky
(Israelnationalnews.com) It was a warm night in the Old City of Jerusalem as a rather large group of young yeshiva and seminary students gathered to hear a soft spoken, raspy, deep voiced man speak about his journey from jail to Judaism. That man was Moshe Levi, better known as the hip-hop artist Shyne. Many of the youth in attendance were too young to have been familiar that his short rise to fame was simultaneous with his incarceration due to a shooting incident at a New York night club while hanging out with Sean “Puffy” Combs and actress Jennifer Lopez.
The speech was organized by Rabbi Eli Goldsmith of the Jaffa Institute who for several years now has been working with dis-enfranchised yeshiva youth. Rabbi Goldsmith is known for his fundraising concerts featuring local yeshiva youth. He plans to bring Shyne to speak at an event on December 2 for the dedication of a new wing for the Bet Shemesh Educational Center.
The album release for a local young artist named Chanan Benami will also be featured. Another speech at a young men’s yeshiva in Tel Stone is planned as well for this week.
So how did the rapper and the rabbi meet? “I had the pleasure of hosting him for Simchas Torah at my house and we connected,” the British born rabbi replied in an interview at Asiyah Media studios in Jerusalem, the new local home for the rapper’s various musical projects. “I thought it was significant that we pray for rain at that time and that rain represents bringing down all the positivity in the world.” Rabbi Goldsmith purposely had the kippah wearing ex-convict speak to at-risk youth to demonstrate how he changed his life around.
That message of personal responsibility is something that Rabbi Goldsmith tries to imbue in his students as well. The young rabbi has a sense of where the youth are coming from. His father and uncle Martin and Harvey Goldsmith, respectively, helped Bob Geldof create Live Aid and other huge British music festivals. He personally grew up secular-traditional, playing rock music and even releasing an album before becoming a rabbi.
During the interview with Israel National Radio, Rabbi Goldsmith interjects that he is giving a Torah lecture at 2 a.m. somewhere in downtown Jerusalem as part of a program to keep youth off the streets at night. It is these activities that earned him the title “the midnight rabbi.” And yet as much as Rabbi Goldsmith gives opportunities for young aspiring Jewish rappers to perform, he personally prefers that they listen to something else.
“The frum (orthodox) world is going to have restrictions and we need to respect that. But we need to work with the tools we have.” the rabbi says, “The realm of hip-hop seem to be a more aggressive or even chutzpadik place. I hope we can insert a vibe of holiness and a positive tone. This is the big challenge in out generation because the youth culture is breathing this vibe. It’s creating a society of people who listen to the animal instead of the soul that wants to uplift. This is what we have to ‘shyne’ forth,” the rabbi states, purposely using the hip-hop name of his new friend.
Jakobs and Rabbi Goldsmith plan to bring other rappers and musicians into the studio, although not top selling ones. They want to take some of the youth Rabbi Goldsmith works with and have them perform in the studio as a way to express their emotions and channel their energy. It will be an extension of his existing Unity of the Bands concerts “One thing is for sure, I’ve got loads of students,” says Rabbi Goldsmith of the growing number of young musicians looking for an outlet both in the yeshiva world and in Israel in general. With several more Shyne speaking engagements to come, the idea of inspiring youth through music is likely to grow, whether it be hip-hop or any other genre.
