Last night was the first of the Winter snow in London. The road gritters were out in force and everyone seemed to be coping quite well. Except of course at Heathrow our premier airport.
I was booked on the 10.20 am BA flight to Los Angeles. I duly arrived at the airport at 8.50am after an uneventful journey on the Heathrow Express to check in. My Blackberry Travel app. Suddenly beeped to tell me that my flight was delayed to 12.47. Ah well, I thought wondering why there were long queues at check in. I duly checked to be told that yes the flight was delayed but I was lucky because a lot of flights had already been cancelled.
I looked out of the window and saw it was becoming slushy. OK , I thought inevitable delays but at least my flight was leaving…. or so I presumed. I trotted off to the lounge and settled down to read the Sunday papers. I then watched the chaos ensue. No one seemed to know what was going on. Their was little snow on the runway but no plane movements. I kept looking at the flight board which said 12.47 departure.
Suddenly my flight dropped off the screen. I went to the desk and was told still leaving but 10 minutes later. Then a chap opposite me who was monitoring on his computer who said the flight was cancelled.
WHY?? Something to do with the unions he said. Too cold to drive the buses, so flights landing were not being unloaded. Another person said it was to do with the fact that our plane was a JUMBO. I shot off to the desk and was told “ yes the flight was cancelled and please go to gate 7 at the other end of the airport. I ran to gate 7 and was told to go through arrivals, go through passport control, collect my luggage, go through customs out of the airport and then go back to Departures to try and get another flight.
What kind of bullshit is this! BA and BAA still don’t know that WE are the paying customers and maybe some convenience should be afforded to those that keep the airline going!
We had one snow flurry and the airport is in chaos……….Have they not learnt anything.
Why was the runways not cleared overnight when the snow had stopped.
Why does Heathrow still not have enough de- icers.
Why do the passengers continue to be screwed by total inefficiency.
I managed to get hold of my travel agent who has booked me on the same flight tomorrow.
Will I have to go through this again ???????????????.

I am in Denver with Jeff Beck. We finished the Rock ‘n’ Roll Party tour on a high in San Francisco on Saturday. Imelda May and her band backed Jeff for 13 sold out shows across USA with every show being fantastic.

We recorded two extra songs in Austin which will shortly be released. We also played on Jay Leno’s Tonight show and had a lot of fun with guest Gary Busey.

Last night we opened the second leg of the tour with Jeff’s regular band. What a night! Jeff rocked etc…
Life is very busy at the moment. We are preparing for a big fun event at Althorp in July and a Festival in London in September.
