Our mission is to instill in our students a lifelong love and commitment to Torah, Am Yisrael and Eretz Yisrael. This is accomplished through our unique curriculum combining a half day of Dynamic Torah Study, with Community Internships and a full program of educational and Challenging Tiyulim. Ashreinu’s energetic staff is dedicated to the development of each and every student in a warm and caring environment.
Course Descriptions from ASHREINU! HALACHA Halacha Bekiut Students will begin their learning with a daily 15 minute session on topics in Ohr HaChaim. This course will explore many areas of halacha including the halachot of daily living, tefillin, tzitzit, tefila, brachot and yom tov. Students will learn the practical halachot and common minhagim. Halacha B’Iyun – Hilchot Shabbat In this course, students will develop an appreciation for the methodology of the halachic process, and familiarity with the modern Halachic Poskim. The course will provide students a firm background in the philosophical underpinnings of Shabbat, as well as a real working knowledge of the intricate details of the positive and negative Mitzvot of the day, including detailed treatment of: * Kiddush/Havdallah * Oneg/Kavod Shabbat * The 39 Malachot * Muktza * Amira L’Akum
Gemara This course is designed to expose students to the Gemara’s treatment of topics that are relevant and meaningful to their lives. The course introduces the student to the tools necessary for the study of Gemara, as well as guides the student in the development of his textual and analytic skills. A combination of guided Chavruta study and shiur will aid the student as he familiarizes himself with the Gemara’s style of discussion and analysis. Special emphasis will be placed on the relevance of the topic learned to the student’s life, including the actual halachic ramifications of the topic studied.
TANACH Chumash Bekiut
Students will study the weekly Parsha with emphasis on themes and concepts with practical applications to their lives. Midrash, Rishonim and modern day commentaries will all be used as a springboard for analysis and discussion of the Parsha. Chumash B’Iyun Students will gain familiarity with the varied styles of the rishonim, and their approach to analyzing Chumash. Students will gain the tools necessary to independently delve into the weekly Parsha, and present Divrei Torah on their own. Nach Bekiut With the study of only 2-3 perakim per day (in Yeshiva), students will complete a survey of the Neviim Rishonim. Tanach study will be done in Chavruta, and will be aided by daily summaries and weekly review sheets. Special emphasis will be placed on lessons from Tanach that can be applied to the individual, communal, and national challenges facing Jews today.
HASHKAFA Taamei HaMitzvot U’Minhagim This course is comprised of three elements – * The Jewish Lifecycle – the reasons, halachot and minhagim of all the major lifecycle events. * The Jewish Calendar – the significance and deeper meaning of the holidays, their laws and lessons. * Survey of essential daily Mitzvot – an in-depth exploration of Mitzvot essential to our identity as Jews, such as Tefillin, Tzedaka, Kibbud Av V’Em, Mezuzah, Tzizit, and more.

Practical tips and techniques will be offered to enhance students’ Tefillah. Modern Jewish Thought This course will expose the student to the issues of Jewish Theology and Philosophy confronting Am Yisrael in the 21st century. The Joy of Being a Jew This course presents concepts of Kabbalah/Chassidus to help students gain deeper selfawareness. Focusing on the spiritual building blocks of personal growth, students will learn practical tools to enable them get along better with themselves, with other people, and with Hashem. Anticipated topics include truth, our deep desires in life, selfesteem, spiritual reality, emotions, davening, Shabbos, and much more.
Mitzvot Bein Adam L’Chaveiro People often make the mistake of assuming that Judaism is only concerned with religious ritual and our relationship with God. In this course we will demonstrate that the Torah gives great importance to interpersonal relationships and, in fact, provides a framework for building a just and caring society. Join us as we explore the laws and ethics of topics such as: honesty, charity, loving your fellow Jew, mutual responsibility, judging others favorably, and much more.
Principles of Faith This course will explore the most pressing issues at the heart of Jewish faith: Does G-d exist? Did He/She create the world? Why do bad things sometimes happen to good people? How does Judaism influence our relationships with: G-d, our parents, our spouse, other people in our lives? Why are there so many commandments and does G-d really keep count and grade us if we observe them or not? Was the Torah really written by G-d or was it man’s creation? Is there life after death? What does it really mean to be a “religious Jew”? This course will be both text-based and interactive.
Survey of Jewish History This course will expose the students to the vast tapestry of the story of the Jewish People and help understand how a tribe of former slaves can survive the world’s empires carrying the message of God and reconstitute themselves in their ancient homeland. Judethics (Pirkei Avot) An in-depth analysis of the teachings of Chazal in Masechet Avot with an emphasis on the ethical and philosophical insights imbedded in the words of our sages. Judethics will try to “bring home” the eclectic insights comprising Masechet Avot , such that the valuable teachings of our spiritual fathers can be relevant to our lives here and now. “Street” Ulpan Yeshivat Ashreinu recognizes the unique opportunity that a year-long Israel program presents for a significant improvement in our students’ Hebrew fluency. Towards this goal, our students will take a weekly Ulpan class. This class will emphasize conversational Hebrew, so that as quicly as possible our students can feel comfortable connecting to Israelis in their native language. This formal learning will be supplemented by the daily interaction Ashreinu students will have with the Israeli students with whom we are sharing a campus in Beit Shemesh.
The David Project Israel as a country and a political entity is always in the news. Anti-Semitism and proPalestinian sentiment are in full gear on the college campus and in the world at large. This course is designed to teach you to advocate effectively for Israel on campus. Educate yourself with a dynamic seminar, a multimedia presentation and Israel-policy experts that focus on the Jewish connection to the Land of Israel, and the development of Jewish leadership skills. Social Entrepreneurs Seminar To reinforce their hands-on community service, students will hear from leading social entrepreneurs active in Israeli society today. Representatives from organizations such as Leket, Nefesh B’Nefesh, and Hatzalah, will be invited to share their wisdom with our students. Through sharing the lessons and experiences of building social welfare organizations in Israel, our students will be inspired to take action and address community needs in the diaspora.
Contemporary Topics A weekly seminar focusing on the Torah’s perspective of pressing modern-day issues, with the goal of demonstrating the eternal truth of Chazal’s dictum – Hafoch Bah, Hafoch Bah, D’Kulah Bah. Topics to be covered include: • science and faith • love and relationships • cults and missionaries • abortion • definition of death • homosexuality • privacy and social media
